BPCL, a Maharatna company, has taken a significant step towards promoting electric vehicles by launching 19 EV fast-charging corridors on 15 major highways across Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The 19 corridors, which connect major cities with popular tourist and religious destinations, include three in Kerala. At the launch ceremony, BPCL officials announced that the company has already installed charging facilities at 19 fuel stations along highways such as Ernakulam-Kozhikode-Kannur-Kasaragod, Kozhikode-Wayanad, and Ernakulam-Thrissur-Palakkad to convert them into EV fast-charging corridors in the initial phase. The company plans to convert three more highways in Kerala, namely Kochi-Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi-Munnar, and Kochi-Thekkady, into EV charging corridors within four months. Officials also revealed that BPCL intends to establish EV fast-charging stations along other major roads in the state, such as the Angamaly-Thiruvananthapuram MC Road, within a year. The fast chargers are self-operated, and BPCL has digitized the entire EV charger locator, operations, and transaction process through the HelloBPCL app for a hassle-free and transparent user experience.
