BYD has made a significant impact on the Indian electric vehicle market with its Atto 3 SUV. The automaker introduced the Atto 3 in the Indian market in November 2022 with an entry price of Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Since then, the automaker has delivered over 700 units across multiple cities in India.

Alongside the Atto 3 SUV, BYD also sells the five-seater e6 EV MPV, which is steadily gaining popularity with fleet operators. The Atto 3 has gathered over 2,000 bookings in India, indicating a strong demand for the vehicle.

BYD received over 2,000 orders for the Atto 3 SUV, and in February alone, the company delivered 360 units of the vehicle. The Atto 3 is locally assembled in India at the company’s facility near Chennai. The SUV’s battery pack can be charged in around 10 hours using a 7kW Type 2 AC charger and in approximately 50 minutes (0-80 percent) with an 80kW DC fast charger.

The Atto 3 SUV is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor mounted at the front axle, which develops 201hp and 310Nm. This allows the Atto 3 to do a 0-100kph run in 7.3 seconds (claimed). The vehicle packs a 60.48kWh Blade battery that has an ARAI-certified range of 521km and also gets regenerative braking.

The Atto 3 SUV boasts of features like a 12.8-inch touchscreen that rotates between portrait and landscape orientation, powered driver and front passenger seats, a 360-degree camera, digital dials, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and more.

The Atto 3 SUV rivals the MG ZS EV (Rs 23.38 lakh-Rs 27.40 lakh) and the Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.84 lakh) as well as the Tata Nexon EV Max (Rs 16.49 lakh-18.99 lakh). BYD plans to more than double its dealer footprint to 53 by the end of 2023 from the 24 retail outlets it had at the end of 2022. The automaker’s existing network covers Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Overall, the Atto 3 SUV has made an impressive entry into the Indian electric vehicle market, with its strong performance, advanced features, and growing popularity among buyers. With plans to expand its dealer network and production capacity, BYD is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of electric mobility in India.
