Overview: 2023 Genesis Electrified G80
Luxury automaker Genesis has announced the release of an electric version of its popular G80 sedan, set to hit the market in 2023. The new model, dubbed the Electrified G80, boasts a dual electric motor system that provides 365 horsepower and a driving range of up to 282 miles on a single charge, thanks to its 87.2-kWh battery pack. Despite the addition of the battery, the car's styling and interior remain virtually unchanged, which should appeal to fans of the original G80. However, due to the battery's size, front- and rear-seat headroom are slightly compromised, and trunk space has been reduced by two cubic feet. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Electrified G80 offers a compelling driving experience that is almost indistinguishable from its gasoline-powered counterpart. It also offers a competitive driving range, making it a viable option for those looking to make the switch to electric.

Genesis is introducing the Electrified G80 as a new addition to its 2023 lineup, marking the brand's entrance into the electric vehicle market. The car will be joined by the new GV60 small EV SUV, which also features electric propulsion. The Electrified G80 will be available in a single trim level, the fully-loaded Prestige. This model comes standard with a range of luxury features, including leather upholstery, wood trim, and a high-end Lexicon stereo system. The price for the Electrified G80 in the Prestige trim is $80,950. Genesis is aiming to provide an electric vehicle that offers all the luxury and performance of its gas-powered counterparts, with a competitive driving range and the latest technological advancements.
Power and Performance: 2023 Genesis Electrified G80
The Electrified G80 features a dual electric motor setup that delivers all-wheel drive and a combined output of 365 horsepower, with one motor powering each axle. This configuration provides quick acceleration, with the car reaching 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds during testing. Impressively, this puts the Electrified G80 ahead of the V-6-powered G80 Sport by 0.6 seconds in the same test. Despite the lack of a gasoline engine, the chassis still feels nimble and responsive, and the car comes equipped with rear-wheel steering for added agility. The electric powertrain makes for a smooth, quiet ride on the highway, providing a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience. The only thing missing is the signature sound of a traditional gasoline engine.
Range, Charging and Battery: 2023 Genesis Electrified G80
The Electrified G80's 87.2-kWh battery pack is located beneath the car's floor, providing an estimated driving range of up to 282 miles on a single charge. During a 75-mph highway test, the car achieved an impressive 280 miles of range. The battery can be rapidly charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes when connected to a 350-kW DC fast charger, which we verified during testing. However, charging time increases to seven hours when plugged into a Level 2 outlet, which is more suitable for overnight charging at home or work. Overall, the Electrified G80 offers a competitive driving range and convenient charging options for electric vehicle owners.
Interior: 2023 Genesis Electrified G80
To accommodate the battery pack, the Electrified G80's interior underwent some minor adjustments that may not be immediately noticeable in photographs. As a result, there is a slight reduction in headroom for both front and rear passengers, with taller individuals possibly feeling the headliner too close to their heads. Additionally, trunk space is reduced by two cubic feet. Nevertheless, the interior remains a luxurious space to spend time in, featuring high-quality materials and a stylish design. The Electrified G80 comes in the loaded Prestige trim level, which includes plush leather upholstery and elegant wood accents throughout the cabin. Despite the slight space constraints, the interior of the Electrified G80 is an attractive and comfortable environment.
Infotainment and Connectivity: 2023 Genesis Electrified G80
The Electrified G80's infotainment system centers around a large 14.5-inch touchscreen display situated atop the dashboard. The screen serves as a hub for various entertainment and vehicle settings, which can be accessed via a circular controller located on the center console, steering wheel buttons, or voice commands. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing seamless integration of smartphone applications, and a high-quality Lexicon audio system. The system is intuitive and user-friendly, providing quick access to essential features and functions without distracting from the driving experience. Overall, the Electrified G80's infotainment and connectivity features are comprehensive and easy to use.
Safety and Warranty: 2023 Genesis Electrified G80
The Electrified G80 is packed with advanced driver-assistance features and safety technologies. It boasts the Smart Park feature that enables the car to park itself in tight spaces without the driver behind the wheel.
