Overview: 2023 Subaru Solterra

The 2023 Subaru Solterra marks the automaker's debut into the electric vehicle market, boasting features such as standard all-wheel drive that Subaru is known for. This compact SUV was developed through a partnership between Subaru and Toyota, who also plan to use the same platform for their upcoming bZ4X model and other future vehicles. The Solterra is equipped with impressive off-road capabilities and an array of standard driver assistance technologies, with an estimated range between 222 and 228 miles. Although the non-luxury EV compact-ute market currently lacks significant competition for the Solterra, this could change rapidly within the next year or so.

Price and Variants : 2023 Subaru Solterra

Although Subaru has not yet revealed the official pricing for the 2023 Solterra, it is anticipated that it will be comparable to the Toyota bZ4X, which is estimated to start in the high $30,000s or low $40,000s. As more information becomes available regarding the Solterra's various trim levels and options, we will be better equipped to advise which model would be the best fit for individual buyers. In the meantime, the Solterra will be available in three trim levels: Premium, Limited, and Touring, with prices ranging from $46,220 to $53,220.

Power and Performance : 2023 Subaru Solterra

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is an all-electric SUV that features a unique all-wheel-drive system powered by two electric motors, producing a combined output of 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. Depending on the selected driving mode, which includes Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode, the power can be distributed differently, with X-mode designed to provide better traction on slippery or uneven surfaces by independently controlling the power to each wheel. With 8.3 inches of ground clearance and a "Grip Control" feature, the Solterra is capable of handling off-road terrain. The regenerative-braking force can be adjusted using the paddles on the steering wheel.  This was made possible by the Solterra's ability to distribute up to 60 percent of its torque to the rear axle, in addition to the option to fully deactivate stability control.
