Overview: 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge

The 2023 C40 Recharge is the trendy and fashionable sibling of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, sporting a fastback roofline and unique design elements to set it apart. While the two models share similar features such as a 402-hp electric powertrain, basic interior design, and onboard tech features, the C40 Recharge is distinct with its own personality. Its EPA-estimated driving range of 226 miles is less than its competitor, the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback, which can travel up to 242 miles on a full charge. Nevertheless, the C40 Recharge is a speedy performer. Despite criticism towards its Google-backed infotainment system, Volvo's compact SUV offers an impressive suite of standard technology features that align with the brand's desirable reputation.

Price and Variants: 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge

The 2023 C40 Recharge offers three variants: Core, Plus, and Ultimate. The Core model starts at $56,395, while the Plus trim is priced at $57,945, and the top-of-the-line Ultimate variant costs $61,195. Among the options, we recommend the Plus trim as it provides excellent value for its price by incorporating various features that justify the additional cost over the base Core model. Some of the notable upgrades in the Plus variant are a 360-degree exterior camera system, power-folding rear headrests, a power-adjustable passenger's seat, a 12-volt power outlet in the cargo area, and an adjustable cargo-area load floor. Choosing the Plus trim will provide drivers with a more enjoyable and convenient driving experience. Volvo's 2023 C40 Recharge now offers two new trims: the entry-level Core and the mid-range Plus. These new additions complement last year's top model, the Ultimate trim. The Core and Plus trims both offer an optional Climate package that includes convenient features such as heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a heat pump to ensure a cozy cabin during colder months. Additionally, the C40 Recharge offers two new interior upholstery options: Charcoal Fusion cloth and Midnight Zinc wool-blend. These new additions provide drivers with even more options to customize their C40 Recharge to their liking.

Power and Performance: 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge

The C40 Recharge and its boxier XC40 Recharge sibling share the same powertrain - two electric motors, one mounted at the front and the other at the rear, producing up to 402 hp, with all-wheel drive as standard. The Polestar 2 electric car also shares this powertrain. During our test drive, the C40 Recharge demonstrated a similar performance to the XC40 Recharge, achieving a 4.3-second zero-to-60-mph time, which is faster than pricier electric SUVs like the Audi e-tron and Cadillac Lyriq. While the C40 Recharge delivers a smooth ride and composed handling, it doesn't offer the same level of sharp steering and enthusiastic driving experience as the more affordable Ford Mustang Mach-E.
