Tata Motors has been taking a focused approach towards EVs for quite some time now. With the Indian government pushing for a switch to electric mobility, the automaker has been investing in developing its EV portfolio to cater to the changing market trends. The latest report suggests that Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) is taking things to the next level by planning to set up dedicated EV showrooms in the top 10 Tier-2 cities.
As part of the plan, TPEM will finalize the design, location, and number of outlets within the first quarter of FY2024. The new showrooms are expected to be open to customers over the next 12 months. These showrooms are likely to offer an exclusive and plush experience to customers, much like Maruti’s Nexa outlets.
Tata is already in the process of shortlisting dealer principals. The average cost of setting up a 6,000-7,000 sq.ft. outlet in a satellite city is expected to be between Rs 95 lakh-Rs 1 crore, according to dealers’ estimates.
This move is part of Tata Motors’ ambitious plan to double its EV sales to 1,00,000-1,10,000 units in FY2024. The automaker is also working on developing a whole new range of EVs based on the Gen 2 and Gen 3 platforms. With the Indian government’s focus on electrification and the increasing awareness about environmental causes, the demand for EVs is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
