Toyota has recently unveiled its first-ever electric car, the BZ4X, at the Auto Expo 2023. Here are the key points about the vehicle:

Design:

  • The design of the BZ4X has a futuristic feel while maintaining classic looks.
  • The front grill has been removed to give the car a cleaner look, and the tail light features a single continuous strip of LEDs, which is becoming an industry standard.
  • The Indian variant is expected to come in the same 9 color variants as the globally available units.

Range:

  • The BZ4X comes in two variants, a single and a dual motor variant, both powered by a 71.4 kWh battery that can be charged by either a 120-volt or a 240-volt charger installed at home.
  • The single-motor variant has an expected range of around 400- 410 km on a single charge, while the dual-motor variant supporting all-wheel drive has a range of around 360 km on a single charge.

Features:

  • The BZ4X comes with the e-TNGA platform, which Toyota claims makes the overall riding of the car more comfortable.
  • It also features a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and options for heated seats, wireless charging pads, and keyless entry.

Launch in India:

  • There is no official statement or plan from Toyota regarding the launch of the BZ4X in India, despite being showcased at the Auto Expo 2023.

While the design of the BZ4X is interesting, its features and range are right in line with other competitors. The launch price will ultimately determine the overall performance in terms of sales, as several other Indian EVs provide justified performance according to their price.
